Grand-Kids Take Newport

Here's something I don't see everyday -
sunshine, blue skies and my grand kids on the coast!!
This was Brenna's first trip to the beach. She was fascinated with the sand. She did the same thing when her parents took her to park near their home for their first summer outing. There she was obsessed with the bark chips!

Cayden enjoyed playing in the sand with his beach toys.

He loved the water, too, and didn't let the COLD temperatures keep him from playing in it. Oregon beaches aren't like most beaches. We have a COLD water stream that comes down from the Alaska gulf. Salmon like cold water!
Faith and Cayden both enjoyed their afternoon of exploring the beach and watching the waves. They had to keep a close watch on Brenna. If they put her down on the sand, the little dickens ran straight for the water! She knows no fear.

The day started out at the tide pools, just before low tide. The little town of Seal Rocks has great geological formations and is wonderful for exploring at low tide. It is a popular stop for our summer tourists.

We were able to spot some good "treasures" for the kids to see. There are always start fish, anemones, snails, mussels, and barnacles to look at. We were able to find some hermits crabs, shrimp, little fish, and empty shells as well.

I drive by the tide pools twice a day, as I commute. Somehow, it's just not as much fun to go down along as it is when you can share the discoveries with someone else.

The enthusiasm of children is one of the best blessings in the world. They help you re-discover all the magic and wonder of God's creations. Getting to spend time with MY kids is the highlight of my summers. I've had two visits so far and am looking forward to Chrissy and Matt's arrival on the coast in about 10 days.
What a GREAT summer!
