Winter along the Oregon Central Coast brings rain and winds (40 -100 mph. depending on the storm). The third week of 2011 brought 8 inches of rain and 5-6 days of 50 mph winds. Living in a "dune" region - that means the sand is going to move. And it does.



The only way to get it out is with equipment. They don't make "sand" blowers.

The builders here, somehow, didn't take that into consideration. In Bayshore, this happens every winter. The houses on the northern point of the Alsea Bay get buried in sand and the roads disappear in the traveling dunes. The sand was even with the eves of the roof on this house before they dug it out and totally covered the doorway.

This shows the depth of the sand in the driveway.

This one is a vacation home and hasn't had any removal done yet. It is a beach-front house. Check out the height of the sand along the side, between the house and the power pole. Right now it is about a third to half buried. If they don't get the sand removed before the next big storm, they are in big trouble.

No sand removal on this. Driveway is buried. New dune is growing in the front yard, between the house and the garage.

People in our area often name their homes. It's a retirement/vacation area. Many are second homes for "snow birds." This one is named "Sand and Surf." A little more sand than surf right now.
