Waldport Coming into the 21st Century

A few weeks ago I posted a picture showing our one intersection with a stop light getting an overhaul. Up until now, the traffic lights hung from electrical cables, which was always exciting during our gale force winds in the winter. You can see them in the picture. You can also see the new replacements.
Today all the hanging lights were removed and the intersection looks like any you might drive through in any city.
We even have a left turn lane. They widen the street, making it four lanes, all through the main strip. They took out the "suicide" center lane. I'm not sure how I feel about it. A lot of changes.

Exciting Day in Waldport!

My youngest daughter said that she enjoyed seeing the changes taking place in town. Since I had shopping to do today, I took my camera with me and was rewarded. NORMALLY, the most exciting thing in town is going down to watch the truck rust. (True picture. Today it was parked at what used to be Clark's Market. ANOTHER change. Clark's Market is now Alsea Bay Market. You have to take notes on all the changes - Can't keep track without a score card!)
TODAY was the day the power company decided to take down the old power poles! You can see them dropping the electric lines in the foreground.
And one by one they were taking down the old ugly, wooden power poles. Our street lights used to be attached to the poles - like the one across the street - tilted. Our NEW street light are in the foreground.
Here are some of the downtown improvements: benches along the sidewalk, the bakery has added some cafe tables outside, and you can see the empty planters they are installing.

Another View of Waldport

I mentioned how surprised I was to have a traffic jam in Waldport. Here is a view of the typical traffic flow. Again you see no RV's. The city is doing a $3 million dollar downtown renovation. They have added several crosswalks, new street lights, underground electric lines, planters and trash containers.
This shot was taken at 6:30 PM, Monday. Rush hour? Not in Waldport. If you enlarge the photo, you can see the new street lights. They are taking down the overhead power lines as they re-locate them. Downtown's going to quite cute when they are done. They have installed some brickwork in the sidewalks, too.

Here are the current gas prices in town. Notice the bikes at the base of the sign? Waldport was provided some "town bikes." They are green and are free for whoever needs transportation. There is no charge for using them; you just leave them out along the road for the next person.

Best Hot Dogs in Waldport

Tom and I have a tradition of spending "precious moments" together here after every run to the dump. Dave and Wanda Jones are the BEST! Stopping there is a MUST for any visit to Waldport!

Traffic Jam - in WALDPORT!

This has been going on for almost a year. Supposedly we are within days of completion. (Of course they said it would be finished before Memorial Day...) They widened the street and put in new sidewalks. They totally re-did the road bed, one side at a time and installed storm drains (yes, storm drains - in Waldport). Now they are doing the final paving and re-doing the power lines for the new stoplight (yes- stop-LIGHT. We only have ONE). No longer will we have the quaint signals hanging from the power line, blowing the the gale force winds in the winter. We have stop light POLES, with the wiring INSIDE them. (You can see both in the picture. The hanging ones are still hooked up until they get the wiring complete. So our one little "controlled" intersection now has 16 - count them, 16 traffic lights! Beat that, Bountiful! It's too much development for me! Franchise fast food, traffic signal poles - where will it STOP! Poor little Wally-World....
